Wrapped BTCWBTC price and how to buy
SolanaBitcoin on Solana, bridged through Wormhole.
What WBTC is
WBTC here is Bitcoin that reached Solana through the Wormhole bridge. Real bitcoin is held in custody, a matching token exists on Solana, and the token tracks the bitcoin price closely because anyone can arbitrage a gap.
Privacc lists two versions of Bitcoin, and the difference matters. cbBTC is issued by Coinbase and redeemed with Coinbase. WBTC is the older, more widely used wrapper, secured by the Wormhole bridge and the custodian behind it.
Neither is bitcoin on the Bitcoin network. Both are claims that someone else is holding it, so the question is always which someone.
You need SOL or USDC first
WBTC is bought by swapping something you already hold for it, so an empty wallet cannot buy any. If yours is empty, start here.
How to get your first SOLWhat WBTC is used for
WBTC is the older and more widely recognised way to hold Bitcoin on another chain. It exists on several networks, which is why it is often the version a lending market or a protocol integrated first.
It is used as collateral in Solana DeFi in the same way as cbBTC, and with the same consequence: the position is liquidated automatically if the bitcoin price falls far enough, whatever you intended.
Some holders prefer it precisely because it is not issued by an exchange they already use. Whether that is an advantage depends on whether you think a bridge and its custodian are a better counterparty than Coinbase, which is a judgement rather than a fact.
How WBTC trades
WBTC trades in reasonable size on Solana but markedly less than cbBTC, which has become the default Bitcoin wrapper here. In practice a four-figure swap is unremarkable and a five-figure one will show real price impact against a thinner book. Compare the quote against the cbBTC route before committing to a large trade: the same dollar amount of Bitcoin exposure can cost noticeably less through the deeper pair.
Common mistakes
The most expensive mistake is assuming WBTC and cbBTC are the same thing at the same price. They track the same asset but they are different tokens with different backing and different depth, and the spread between them widens exactly when it matters.
A bridged token carries two failure modes rather than one. The custodian holding the bitcoin is the first, and the bridge is the second — bridges have historically been the most attacked infrastructure in the industry. Neither shows up in the price until it does.
WBTC sent to a Bitcoin address is gone, in the same way cbBTC is. It is an SPL token and the Bitcoin network has never heard of it.
A wallet with no SOL cannot move WBTC at all. The fee is always paid in SOL regardless of what is being swapped.

WBTC — Contract address
Symbols on Solana are not unique: anyone can mint a token using the WBTC ticker. Verify the mint address, never the name:
