Jito Staked SOLJitoSOL price and how to buy
SolanaStaked SOL you can still trade, earning rewards plus MEV tips.
What JitoSOL is
JitoSOL is a liquid staking token. You hand SOL to the Jito stake pool, the pool stakes it across validators, and you get JitoSOL back. Unlike staking directly, the receipt is a normal SPL token, so you can swap it, lend it or use it as collateral while the SOL underneath stays staked.
It does not pay rewards into your wallet. Instead one JitoSOL is worth steadily more SOL over time, because rewards accrue inside the pool. That is why the price is always a little above SOL and the gap widens slowly.
Jito's pool also captures MEV tips from the blocks its validators produce and passes them back, which is the main reason its return has run ahead of plain staking. It is the largest liquid staking token on Solana by a wide margin.
You need SOL or USDC first
JitoSOL is bought by swapping something you already hold for it, so an empty wallet cannot buy any. If yours is empty, start here.
How to get your first SOLWhat JitoSOL is used for
JitoSOL is how people stake SOL without locking it up. The stake earns in the background while the receipt stays a normal token you can swap, lend or post as collateral at any moment.
It is widely accepted across Solana DeFi, more so than any other liquid staking token, which is the practical argument for it over the alternatives. A staking token nothing accepts is just a slower way to hold SOL.
Holding it is a bet on staking returns rather than on a project. There is no business behind JitoSOL and nothing to be optimistic about: the value comes from validator rewards and MEV tips accumulating inside the pool.
How JitoSOL trades
JitoSOL is by a wide margin the most liquid staking token on Solana, and the SOL pair carries most of that depth. Swapping back to SOL is normally cheap and immediate, which is the whole point of holding a liquid receipt rather than staking directly. The exception is a rush for the exit: the pool's own unstaking takes an epoch, so when many holders sell at once the swap price can fall below what the pool says a JitoSOL is worth.
Common mistakes
Expecting rewards to arrive in the wallet is the usual confusion. Nothing is ever paid out. One JitoSOL simply becomes worth more SOL over time, so the balance stays the same while the exchange rate moves.
Comparing the JitoSOL price to the SOL price and concluding it is overpriced gets it backwards. It trades above SOL because it represents SOL plus the rewards accrued so far, and that gap is designed to widen.
A stake pool is a smart contract, and that is a risk plain staking does not have. Staking SOL directly with a validator involves no contract that can contain a bug; depositing into a pool does.
Selling in a hurry can cost more than waiting. Because unstaking through the pool takes an epoch while a swap is instant, a crowded exit pushes the market price below the pool's valuation, and the difference is the price of not waiting.
