About BNB Chain

BNB Chain is the network that launched as Binance Smart Chain in 2020, alongside the Binance exchange. It runs the same virtual machine as Ethereum, so Ethereum wallets, token standards and tooling work on it unchanged. Addresses look the same too: your 0x address is the same on both networks, but the balances on each are entirely separate, and a token sent to the wrong one does not arrive.

Gas is paid in BNB. A swap usually costs a few cents or less, because the network is secured by a comparatively small set of validators rather than thousands of them. That is the trade it makes for speed and cost, and it is also the most common criticism of it.

MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Binance Wallet, OKX Wallet and Coinbase Wallet all support it, some after BNB Chain is added as a network. PancakeSwap is its largest exchange, and most of the liquidity a swap here is routed through sits in PancakeSwap pools.
