EtherETH price and how to buy on Ethereum
EthereumEthereum's own coin, and the gas for every transaction on it.
What ETH is
ETH is the native coin of Ethereum. It pays the gas for every transaction on the network, it is what validators stake to secure the network under proof of stake, and it is the asset most of Ethereum's DeFi is priced against. The same asset pays for gas on Base, Arbitrum and other layer 2 networks, though each network's ETH is a separate balance.
Part of every transaction fee has been burned — permanently removed — since a change to the network in 2021, so ETH's supply shrinks when Ethereum is busy and grows slowly when it is quiet. The price moves with demand for Ethereum block space, with staking, with flows into exchange-traded funds that hold it, and with the crypto market as a whole.
Inside apps ETH often appears as WETH, a contract that holds ETH one-for-one so it can be traded like any other token. The swap panel handles that for you, and the chart here is drawn from WETH's pool against USDC.
