What SHIB is

SHIB, Shiba Inu, launched on Ethereum in 2020 as a Dogecoin-inspired memecoin and in 2021 became one of the largest cryptocurrencies by market value. Its pseudonymous creator, Ryoshi, sent half the supply to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who burned most of it and gave the rest to charity.

The project has since built around the token: ShibaSwap, its own exchange, and Shibarium, a separate network. SHIB itself remains an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, and its deepest market is still ShibaSwap's pool against WETH.

Its price moves with the memecoin market and with attention. The supply is in the hundreds of trillions, which is why the price has so many zeros after the decimal point.

Connect an EVM wallet

Common mistakes

SHIB bought here is on Ethereum. Shibarium is a separate network whose gas is paid in a different token, BONE, so SHIB on Ethereum does not make Shibarium usable.
Fake SHIB contracts and fake burn or airdrop sites are common. The address on this page is the original token on Ethereum.

What is Shibarium?

A separate network built by the Shiba Inu project. It has its own gas token, BONE, and moving SHIB there needs a bridge. This page only buys SHIB on Ethereum.

Why did Vitalik Buterin hold SHIB?

Its creator sent him half the supply unasked. He burned most of it, taking it out of circulation for good, and donated the rest.

Is SHIB related to Dogecoin?

Only in theme. Both use the Shiba Inu dog, but Dogecoin has its own blockchain, while SHIB is a token on Ethereum from an unrelated team.
