What CAKE is

CAKE is the token of PancakeSwap, the decentralised exchange that holds most of the trading liquidity on BNB Chain. PancakeSwap launched in 2020 on the same automated-market-maker design as Uniswap: traders swap against pools of tokens that anyone can supply, rather than against an order book. It has since spread to other networks, but BNB Chain remains its home.

CAKE is used to vote on the protocol, to earn rewards in PancakeSwap's farms and pools, and inside some of its other products. Part of the exchange's income has gone to buying CAKE back and burning it, and PancakeSwap's governance has changed the token's issuance and reward rules several times, generally towards issuing less.

Its price follows trading on BNB Chain more closely than almost anything else on this list. When volume on the chain rises, PancakeSwap earns more in fees and the case for CAKE strengthens with it; when the chain goes quiet, the reverse.

Buying CAKE, step by step

  1. 1

    Connect an EVM wallet

Open the swap panel and connect MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or any browser wallet that supports BNB Chain. On a phone, the same wallets open through their own apps. Privacc only reads your public address — it cannot move your funds.

  2. 2

Hold some BNB on BNB Chain for gas

Every BNB Chain transaction is paid for in BNB, whatever token you are swapping, so a wallet with no BNB cannot buy CAKE. The panel opens on BNB Chain; if your wallet is set to another network it will ask to switch.

  3. 3

    Check the token is CAKE

The panel is already set to CAKE at the contract address on this page, so there is nothing to search for. If you pick it by hand, compare the address rather than the name — copies with the same symbol exist.

  4. 4

    Approve, then swap

If you pay with a token rather than BNB, your wallet first asks you to approve the router to spend it. That is a separate transaction with its own gas fee, needed once per token. Then check the quote — the CAKE you receive, the price impact and the fees — and sign the swap.

  5. 5

    Find it in your wallet

The PancakeSwap arrives in the wallet you signed from once the transaction confirms. If your wallet does not list it, add it as a custom token using the contract address on this page.

CAKE contract address on BNB Chain

Token names and symbols on BNB Chain are not unique — anyone can deploy a contract called CAKE. The address is the only thing that identifies the real one. Check it, never the name:

Common mistakes

  1. Farm and pool yields quoted in CAKE are paid in CAKE. A high percentage return can be outrun by a falling CAKE price, which leaves fewer dollars at the end despite more tokens.

  2. Copies of the PancakeSwap website are a well-worn phishing route. Buying CAKE here does not involve visiting any exchange's site, and a page that asks for a seed phrase is never genuine.

  3. CAKE exists on other networks as separate contracts. The address on this page is the original on BNB Chain, and sending it to an exchange deposit address for another network can lose it.

CAKE questions

What is CAKE used for?

Voting on PancakeSwap's governance, earning and boosting rewards in its farms and pools, and as a token inside some of its products. It does not pay for gas; on BNB Chain that is always BNB.

Does buying CAKE here go through PancakeSwap?

Often, in part. The aggregator compares routes across the exchanges on BNB Chain, and PancakeSwap holds much of the liquidity, so many CAKE routes pass through its pools. The quote names the route it chose before you sign.

Is CAKE's supply fixed?

No. New CAKE is issued as rewards and some is burned, so the circulating supply moves in both directions, and governance has changed the rules for both more than once.

Where can I buy CAKE on BNB Chain?

On this page. Connect an EVM wallet with some BNB for gas, enter an amount and sign. The CAKE goes straight to your wallet without passing through Privacc.

Do I need an account to buy CAKE?

No. Privacc has no accounts and no sign-up because it never takes custody of your funds. You connect a wallet, sign a transaction, and the tokens go straight to you.

What does it cost to buy CAKE on BNB Chain?

The BNB Chain network fee, paid in BNB; a one-off approval fee the first time you sell a given token; the price impact of the route; and any service fee. All of it is in the quote you see before you sign.
