Gold xStockGLDx price and how to buy
SolanaTokenised exposure to a gold ETF, tradeable on Solana.
What GLDx is
GLDx is an xStock issued by Backed Finance that tracks a gold exchange-traded fund, so its price follows the gold price through the fund's holdings. It is the way to hold gold exposure as a Solana token without a vault, a dealer or a brokerage, and it can be swapped against SOL or USDC at any hour.
It is not the same thing as a gold-backed token such as PAXG or XAUT, which are backed by physical bars. GLDx is backed by shares of a fund that holds the bars, one step further removed, and priced from the fund's quote rather than the spot gold market.
You need SOL or USDC first
GLDx is bought by swapping something you already hold for it, so an empty wallet cannot buy any. If yours is empty, start here.
How to get your first SOLWhat GLDx is used for
GLDx is a place to park value on Solana that is not a dollar token and not a crypto asset, for someone who wants gold exposure without leaving their wallet.
It trades at the weekend and overnight, when the fund and the gold futures market do not, so a position can be changed on news at any hour.
It swaps into SOL, USDC or anything else on Solana in seconds, where selling fund shares at a broker takes days to reach a bank.
How GLDx trades
GLDx has around a million dollars of depth against USDC on Solana and is listed on Kraken and MEXC. During US market hours arbitrage keeps it close to the fund's quote; outside them the book is thin and the price drifts. Gold moves less than a stock, so the drift is usually small, but the price impact on a large swap is not.
Common mistakes
GLDx is not gold and not a gold-backed token. It is a claim on fund shares, which are a claim on gold, and both the issuer and the fund sit between you and the metal.
The fund charges an annual fee, which shows up as the token slowly underperforming spot gold. That is not a bug in the token; it is the fund.
A weekend price is not a preview of Monday's gold price. The on-chain book is thin when the fund is not trading.
The ticker is easy to fake. The token this page describes is the mint shown above.
