What VIRTUAL is

VIRTUAL is the token of Virtuals Protocol, a platform on Base for creating and trading tokenised AI agents — software characters that post, chat or trade, each with a token of its own. Agent tokens launched on Virtuals are paired with VIRTUAL, so trading in agents creates demand for it.

It became one of the defining tokens of the AI-agent wave of late 2024, and its price has moved with that theme ever since: sharply up when agent launches are in fashion and sharply down when they are not.

Virtuals has since spread to other networks, but Base is where it started and where its deepest pools are.

Buying VIRTUAL, step by step

  1. 1

    Connect an EVM wallet

Open the swap panel and connect MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or any browser wallet that supports Base. On a phone, the same wallets open through their own apps. Privacc only reads your public address — it cannot move your funds.

  2. 2

Hold some ETH on Base for gas

Every Base transaction is paid for in ETH, whatever token you are swapping, so a wallet with no ETH cannot buy VIRTUAL. The panel opens on Base; if your wallet is set to another network it will ask to switch.

  3. 3

    Check the token is VIRTUAL

The panel is already set to VIRTUAL at the contract address on this page, so there is nothing to search for. If you pick it by hand, compare the address rather than the name — copies with the same symbol exist.

  4. 4

    Approve, then swap

If you pay with a token rather than ETH, your wallet first asks you to approve the router to spend it. That is a separate transaction with its own gas fee, needed once per token. Then check the quote — the VIRTUAL you receive, the price impact and the fees — and sign the swap.

  5. 5

    Find it in your wallet

The Virtuals Protocol arrives in the wallet you signed from once the transaction confirms. If your wallet does not list it, add it as a custom token using the contract address on this page.

VIRTUAL contract address on Base

Token names and symbols on Base are not unique — anyone can deploy a contract called VIRTUAL. The address is the only thing that identifies the real one. Check it, never the name:

Common mistakes

  1. Agent tokens launched on Virtuals are separate, much riskier tokens. Buying VIRTUAL is not buying any particular agent, and buying an agent is not buying VIRTUAL.

  2. Tokens driven by a theme can fall as fast as they rose when attention moves on.

  3. VIRTUAL exists on more than one network with separate contracts. The address on this page is the Base one.

VIRTUAL questions

What is an AI agent token?

A token tied to a piece of AI software launched on a platform such as Virtuals. Its value rests on attention to that agent; most have very thin markets.

How is VIRTUAL used?

As the pairing asset for agent tokens launched on Virtuals, and within the platform's own programmes. Demand for it rises and falls with activity on the platform.

Is VIRTUAL on other networks the same token?

Same project, different contracts. A version on another network is not interchangeable with this one without a bridge.

Where can I buy VIRTUAL on Base?

On this page. Connect an EVM wallet with some ETH for gas, enter an amount and sign. The VIRTUAL goes straight to your wallet without passing through Privacc.

Do I need an account to buy VIRTUAL?

No. Privacc has no accounts and no sign-up because it never takes custody of your funds. You connect a wallet, sign a transaction, and the tokens go straight to you.

What does it cost to buy VIRTUAL on Base?

The Base network fee, paid in ETH; a one-off approval fee the first time you sell a given token; the price impact of the route; and any service fee. All of it is in the quote you see before you sign.
