What AAVE is

AAVE is the governance token of Aave, a lending protocol where anyone can deposit crypto to earn interest or borrow against it. Aave runs a lending market on Base as well as on Ethereum and other networks.

The AAVE on this page is a bridged copy of the Ethereum original. It tracks the same price and can be traded cheaply on Base, but governance and staking happen with AAVE on Ethereum.

Its price moves with borrowing on Aave across all its networks, the fees the protocol earns, and DeFi generally.

Buying AAVE, step by step

  1. 1

    Connect an EVM wallet

Open the swap panel and connect MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or any browser wallet that supports Base. On a phone, the same wallets open through their own apps. Privacc only reads your public address — it cannot move your funds.

  2. 2

Hold some ETH on Base for gas

Every Base transaction is paid for in ETH, whatever token you are swapping, so a wallet with no ETH cannot buy AAVE. The panel opens on Base; if your wallet is set to another network it will ask to switch.

  3. 3

    Check the token is AAVE

The panel is already set to AAVE at the contract address on this page, so there is nothing to search for. If you pick it by hand, compare the address rather than the name — copies with the same symbol exist.

  4. 4

    Approve, then swap

If you pay with a token rather than ETH, your wallet first asks you to approve the router to spend it. That is a separate transaction with its own gas fee, needed once per token. Then check the quote — the AAVE you receive, the price impact and the fees — and sign the swap.

  5. 5

    Find it in your wallet

The Aave (bridged to Base) arrives in the wallet you signed from once the transaction confirms. If your wallet does not list it, add it as a custom token using the contract address on this page.

AAVE contract address on Base

Token names and symbols on Base are not unique — anyone can deploy a contract called AAVE. The address is the only thing that identifies the real one. Check it, never the name:

Common mistakes

  1. Bridged AAVE on Base cannot be used for Aave's governance or staking until it is moved back to Ethereum.

  2. AAVE on Base and AAVE on Ethereum are separate contracts. Sending one to an address expecting the other, such as an exchange deposit set to Ethereum, can lose it.

  3. Holding AAVE is not lending on Aave. Deposits earn interest; the governance token in a wallet does not.

AAVE questions

Is this the same AAVE as on Ethereum?

Same price, different contract. It is a bridged copy on Base. The original, used for governance and staking, is on Ethereum.

Do I need AAVE to use Aave on Base?

No. Lending and borrowing on Aave do not require the governance token.

Why buy AAVE on Base rather than Ethereum?

Gas. A swap on Base costs a small fraction of the same swap on Ethereum, which matters on a small amount. The trade-off is the bridge that stands behind the Base copy.

Where can I buy AAVE on Base?

On this page. Connect an EVM wallet with some ETH for gas, enter an amount and sign. The AAVE goes straight to your wallet without passing through Privacc.

Do I need an account to buy AAVE?

No. Privacc has no accounts and no sign-up because it never takes custody of your funds. You connect a wallet, sign a transaction, and the tokens go straight to you.

What does it cost to buy AAVE on Base?

The Base network fee, paid in ETH; a one-off approval fee the first time you sell a given token; the price impact of the route; and any service fee. All of it is in the quote you see before you sign.

Market cap and supply are left out: the AAVE contract on Base holds only the part of the supply that has been brought to this network, so its figures would describe that part rather than AAVE as a whole.
