What WBTC is

WBTC on Arbitrum is Wrapped Bitcoin bridged from Ethereum. On Ethereum, WBTC is a token backed one-to-one by bitcoin held by BitGo and its partners; the Arbitrum version is locked WBTC on Ethereum represented here through Arbitrum's bridge.

It is the deepest bitcoin market on Arbitrum, traded mostly against WETH, and it is used as collateral across Arbitrum's lending and derivatives protocols.

Its price is bitcoin's price. What it adds are two dependencies: the custody behind WBTC, and the bridge behind the Arbitrum copy.

Buying WBTC, step by step

  1. 1

    Connect an EVM wallet

Open the swap panel and connect MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or any browser wallet that supports Arbitrum. On a phone, the same wallets open through their own apps. Privacc only reads your public address — it cannot move your funds.

  2. 2

Hold some ETH on Arbitrum for gas

Every Arbitrum transaction is paid for in ETH, whatever token you are swapping, so a wallet with no ETH cannot buy WBTC. The panel opens on Arbitrum; if your wallet is set to another network it will ask to switch.

  3. 3

    Check the token is WBTC

The panel is already set to WBTC at the contract address on this page, so there is nothing to search for. If you pick it by hand, compare the address rather than the name — copies with the same symbol exist.

  4. 4

    Approve, then swap

If you pay with a token rather than ETH, your wallet first asks you to approve the router to spend it. That is a separate transaction with its own gas fee, needed once per token. Then check the quote — the WBTC you receive, the price impact and the fees — and sign the swap.

  5. 5

    Find it in your wallet

The Wrapped Bitcoin (Arbitrum) arrives in the wallet you signed from once the transaction confirms. If your wallet does not list it, add it as a custom token using the contract address on this page.

WBTC contract address on Arbitrum

Token names and symbols on Arbitrum are not unique — anyone can deploy a contract called WBTC. The address is the only thing that identifies the real one. Check it, never the name:

Common mistakes

  1. WBTC on Arbitrum is two steps removed from bitcoin: a bridged copy of a custodial token. Either the custody or the bridge failing could break the peg.

  2. WBTC sent to a Bitcoin address is lost. It is a token on Arbitrum, and the Bitcoin network has no record of it.

  3. WBTC uses 8 decimal places rather than the usual 18. A token added by hand with the wrong setting shows a nonsensical balance.

Risks to understand

Nothing on this page is financial advice. Read how to spot a rug pull before buying anything smaller than this. This token is a wrapped or bridged asset — how wrapped and bridged tokens work explains what you are actually holding.

WBTC questions

Is WBTC on Arbitrum the same as WBTC on Ethereum?

It represents the same token, but it is a separate contract on Arbitrum, backed by WBTC held in the Arbitrum bridge on Ethereum.

Who holds the bitcoin behind it?

BitGo and its partners hold the bitcoin behind WBTC on Ethereum. The Arbitrum copy is backed by that WBTC, locked in the bridge.

Can I get real bitcoin for it?

Not directly. It would have to be bridged back to Ethereum and redeemed through a WBTC merchant, or sold on an exchange. Swapping here gets you another Arbitrum token.

Where can I buy WBTC on Arbitrum?

On this page. Connect an EVM wallet with some ETH for gas, enter an amount and sign. The WBTC goes straight to your wallet without passing through Privacc.

Do I need an account to buy WBTC?

No. Privacc has no accounts and no sign-up because it never takes custody of your funds. You connect a wallet, sign a transaction, and the tokens go straight to you.

What does it cost to buy WBTC on Arbitrum?

The Arbitrum network fee, paid in ETH; a one-off approval fee the first time you sell a given token; the price impact of the route; and any service fee. All of it is in the quote you see before you sign.

Market cap and supply are left out: the WBTC contract on Arbitrum holds only the part of the supply that has been brought to this network, so its figures would describe that part rather than WBTC as a whole.
