What GMX is

GMX is the token of GMX, a decentralised exchange for perpetual futures and spot trading that launched on Arbitrum in 2021 and later added other networks. Traders trade against pools of assets supplied by liquidity providers, rather than against each other through an order book.

The protocol has shared part of its trading fees with GMX stakers, and the way it does so has changed over time. GMX is native to Arbitrum; this contract is the original.

Its price moves with trading volume on GMX and with competition from other perpetual-futures exchanges.

Buying GMX, step by step

  1. 1

    Connect an EVM wallet

Open the swap panel and connect MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or any browser wallet that supports Arbitrum. On a phone, the same wallets open through their own apps. Privacc only reads your public address — it cannot move your funds.

  2. 2

Hold some ETH on Arbitrum for gas

Every Arbitrum transaction is paid for in ETH, whatever token you are swapping, so a wallet with no ETH cannot buy GMX. The panel opens on Arbitrum; if your wallet is set to another network it will ask to switch.

  3. 3

    Check the token is GMX

The panel is already set to GMX at the contract address on this page, so there is nothing to search for. If you pick it by hand, compare the address rather than the name — copies with the same symbol exist.

  4. 4

    Approve, then swap

If you pay with a token rather than ETH, your wallet first asks you to approve the router to spend it. That is a separate transaction with its own gas fee, needed once per token. Then check the quote — the GMX you receive, the price impact and the fees — and sign the swap.

  5. 5

    Find it in your wallet

The GMX arrives in the wallet you signed from once the transaction confirms. If your wallet does not list it, add it as a custom token using the contract address on this page.

GMX contract address on Arbitrum

Token names and symbols on Arbitrum are not unique — anyone can deploy a contract called GMX. The address is the only thing that identifies the real one. Check it, never the name:

Common mistakes

  1. Buying GMX is not trading on GMX. The token gives exposure to the protocol; it is not a leveraged position and involves no liquidation.

  2. Exchanges built from smart contracts can be exploited, and GMX's own older version was drained in 2025. Protocol risk is part of holding its token.

  3. GMX's deepest Arbitrum pool by reserve barely trades, so the quote's price impact matters more than the pool's size.

GMX questions

What is GMX?

A decentralised exchange for perpetual futures and spot trading, where traders trade against liquidity pools and keep their funds in their own wallets.

Does staking GMX earn fees?

GMX has shared part of the protocol's fees with stakers, but the mechanism has changed more than once. Check the current terms with GMX before counting on it.

Is GMX on other networks the same token?

GMX runs on more than one network, and each has its own contract. This page is about GMX on Arbitrum, where the protocol started.

Where can I buy GMX on Arbitrum?

On this page. Connect an EVM wallet with some ETH for gas, enter an amount and sign. The GMX goes straight to your wallet without passing through Privacc.

Do I need an account to buy GMX?

No. Privacc has no accounts and no sign-up because it never takes custody of your funds. You connect a wallet, sign a transaction, and the tokens go straight to you.

What does it cost to buy GMX on Arbitrum?

The Arbitrum network fee, paid in ETH; a one-off approval fee the first time you sell a given token; the price impact of the route; and any service fee. All of it is in the quote you see before you sign.
