What WBTC is

WBTC on Polygon is Wrapped Bitcoin bridged from Ethereum through Polygon's bridge. On Ethereum, WBTC is backed one-to-one by bitcoin held by BitGo and its partners; the Polygon copy is backed by WBTC locked in the bridge.

It is the main bitcoin market on Polygon, traded mostly against WETH, and used as collateral in Polygon's lending markets.

Its price is bitcoin's. What it adds are two dependencies: the custody behind WBTC and the bridge behind the Polygon copy. Polygon's pools are also thin, so large orders move the price more here than on Ethereum.

Buying WBTC, step by step

  1. 1

    Connect an EVM wallet

Open the swap panel and connect MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet or any browser wallet that supports Polygon. On a phone, the same wallets open through their own apps. Privacc only reads your public address — it cannot move your funds.

  2. 2

Hold some POL on Polygon for gas

Every Polygon transaction is paid for in POL, whatever token you are swapping, so a wallet with no POL cannot buy WBTC. The panel opens on Polygon; if your wallet is set to another network it will ask to switch.

  3. 3

    Check the token is WBTC

The panel is already set to WBTC at the contract address on this page, so there is nothing to search for. If you pick it by hand, compare the address rather than the name — copies with the same symbol exist.

  4. 4

    Approve, then swap

If you pay with a token rather than POL, your wallet first asks you to approve the router to spend it. That is a separate transaction with its own gas fee, needed once per token. Then check the quote — the WBTC you receive, the price impact and the fees — and sign the swap.

  5. 5

    Find it in your wallet

The Wrapped Bitcoin (Polygon) arrives in the wallet you signed from once the transaction confirms. If your wallet does not list it, add it as a custom token using the contract address on this page.

WBTC contract address on Polygon

Token names and symbols on Polygon are not unique — anyone can deploy a contract called WBTC. The address is the only thing that identifies the real one. Check it, never the name:

Common mistakes

  1. WBTC on Polygon is two steps removed from bitcoin: a bridged copy of a custodial token. Either failing could break the peg.

  2. WBTC sent to a Bitcoin address is lost. It is a token on Polygon, and the Bitcoin network has no record of it.

  3. WBTC uses 8 decimal places rather than the usual 18. A token added by hand with the wrong setting shows a nonsensical balance.

Risks to understand

Nothing on this page is financial advice. Read how to spot a rug pull before buying anything smaller than this. This token is a wrapped or bridged asset — how wrapped and bridged tokens work explains what you are actually holding.

WBTC questions

Is WBTC on Polygon the same as WBTC on Ethereum?

It represents the same token, but it is a separate contract on Polygon, backed by WBTC locked in Polygon's bridge.

Why is the price impact higher than on Ethereum?

Polygon's WBTC pools hold a small fraction of Ethereum's, so the same order is a bigger share of the pool and moves the price further.

Can I get real bitcoin for it?

Not directly. It would need bridging back to Ethereum and redeeming through a WBTC merchant, or selling on an exchange.

Where can I buy WBTC on Polygon?

On this page. Connect an EVM wallet with some POL for gas, enter an amount and sign. The WBTC goes straight to your wallet without passing through Privacc.

Do I need an account to buy WBTC?

No. Privacc has no accounts and no sign-up because it never takes custody of your funds. You connect a wallet, sign a transaction, and the tokens go straight to you.

What does it cost to buy WBTC on Polygon?

The Polygon network fee, paid in POL; a one-off approval fee the first time you sell a given token; the price impact of the route; and any service fee. All of it is in the quote you see before you sign.

Market cap and supply are left out: the WBTC contract on Polygon holds only the part of the supply that has been brought to this network, so its figures would describe that part rather than WBTC as a whole.
